Hello from the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in JFK. I have been traveling for quite some time and have FINALLY decided to bite the bullet and start a blog. I have many friends that have told me that I should start a blog but since there are so many travel blogs out there, I felt that it would be difficult to provide a blog that actually provides something of value to the readers. A little about myself. I travel for work to both Europe and Asia and sometimes within the United States. I am not loyal to any one airline or hotel brand. I am currently a Hyatt Diamond, Hilton Diamond, Starwood Platinum, and Marriott Gold member. I am Star Alliance Gold via Aegean Air (Miles & Bonus Gold), Skyteam Elite Plus(China Airlines Paragon) and Lifetime Platinum 1MM with Delta, and One World Emerald (British Air Gold). I am also a huge foodie and my personal social media has lots of food pictures.
It has been quite a whirlwind as I had flown from Ontario airport to Seattle via Alaska Air and to Tokyo Narita via Delta One to Singapore via ANA on the Dreamliner on August 27, 2016 and returned August 30 on the reverse route (Delta One, Delta One, Alaska, respectively). I did get to sample on this trip, the hawker store 1 star Michelin known as Hong Kong soya sauce chicken and rice in Singapore, which by the way is still hands down the best airport in the world. I then flew out the next day on August 31 on Virgin America from LAX to JFK and am returning to LAX on Labor Day.
It is September 5, 2016, and the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is a gorgeous lounge with excellent food, spacious, and has a spa. I have been here in the past but usually I am here in the early mornings. The truffle tagliatelle was very salty, the truffle grilled cheese was ok and there wasn't a lot of "truffle" flavoring to the grilled cheese but the Parmesan fries and truffle mayo that accompany the truffled grilled cheese were excellent. Fries were crispy and plenty of Parmesan on each fry. The truffle mayo was gone quite quickly since it was very flavorful. The attendant recommended the shrimp gyoza, although not listed, was very good and the sauce ("Dark soy sauce") was very tangy. The smothered rock shrimp which is buttermilk soaked, fried rock shrimp in a spicy red pepper and sriracha mayo with a lemon wedge was decent but the batter came off and the sauce was not spicy. Prawn summer roll with sweet chili sauce was good but it fell apart to the touch. BBQ ribs fell off the bone and the bbq sauce on it was very sweet. The meat was tender and it was quite good. The fried chicken wings with hot sauce was basically that and Tabasco sauce. It was good but not great. The corn soup was excellent with a strong corn flavor to it like it was corn blended to make the soup. The soup was poured on to the cheese crostini and the flavor of that was lost in the corn. This dish was among the dishes most ordered among the patrons within the lounge.
Thank you for reading as I begin on my travel and food blogging venture.
